Sandton has reinvented itself several times over—from mine dumps to corporate headquarters to a hybrid neighbourhood where professionals now actually live, eat, and spend weekends outside the office tower. Watergat sits within that shift. The restaurant captures something of what Sandton is becoming: a place where work and leisure blur, where people want substance rather than theatre, where the clientele spans industries and demographics but shares an appetite for food that tastes considered. The location itself—how the space works in the precinct, who ends up walking through the door, what the room feels like on a Thursday versus a Saturday—reflects Sandton's particular character: money, yes, but also genuine diversity and a tired disinterest in pretence.
