Cape Town's community-based learning sector relies on organisations that bridge gaps for young people who've fallen outside mainstream schooling. Whether through learning disability, life circumstances, or simply needing alternative pathways, these young people represent part of the city's future workforce—but only if they access skills-based training that recognises their needs. I-CAN Centre operates within this community role, supporting learners who require flexible, inclusive, and sometimes therapeutic approaches to skills development. The centre functions as a transition point: helping stabilise educational engagement, building confidence around learning, and connecting young people to further training or employment opportunities. Without such services, entire cohorts remain disconnected from both the economy and social participation.
