Fikelela AIDS Project
Supporting people living with HIV and AIDS in Cape Town involves more than one-off interventions—it requires consistent, ongoing engagement across multiple areas of health and wellbeing. Fikelela AIDS Project operates from a practical understanding of what sustained care looks like in the city: counselling and testing services, adherence support for people on antiretroviral medication, nutritional assistance, and basic healthcare education. The work happens through regular drop-in sessions and community outreach, meeting people where they are rather than waiting for them to seek services elsewhere. Because adherence to treatment requires real support—not just medication—and because stigma still affects how easily people access help, having a dedicated space where this work happens consistently matters significantly. The project operates within the reality of Cape Town's healthcare network, filling gaps where clinic-based services alone cannot reach everyone who needs support.
