1st Discovery Scout Group

The 1st Discovery Scout Group operates in Soweto as a membership organisation built on outdoor learning, skill-building, and structured youth development. Scouting works through hands-on experience—camping trips across Gauteng, hiking in local reserves, knot-tying and navigation training, fire-building and wilderness safety. In a city environment where supervised outdoor access isn't always readily available, the group creates deliberate pathways for young people to learn self-reliance, environmental awareness, and teamwork. Members move through progressive levels, each with new challenges and certifications. The structure itself matters: weekly meetings, badges earned through effort, clear advancement, and mentorship from trained leaders.
